Human Touch Massage Therapy

Eyebright! The delicate and unusual Eyebright I was lucky enough to come across today whilst on a walk. A plant with a flower that to me feels most magical, it’s one you could easily miss, growing as it does amongst the grass and other plants. The flowers are small and beautiful, with lobed petals, their unusual markings giving it one of it’s names, ‘Christ’s Eye’.

Also known as Euphrasia, Eyebright is, as it’s name suggests, a healing remedy for the eyes.

The plant contains zinc, copper and selenium, all of which help protect against cataract formation. The tannins within it will help with the relief of inflammation and in drying up any secretions. It also contains anti oxidant flavonoids, and phytonutrients, including the anti inflammatory aucubin.

A cooled infusion of the leaves can be used to soothe the eyes where there has been soreness and itching, sensitivity, and symptoms associated with conjunctivitis. The eyesight is thought to be strengthened with regular ingestion of a tea made from the plant.

Eyebright is also anti catarrhal, and is good for sinusitis and colds, improving the liver, and clearing out toxins from the body.
